Syed Abed Ali, a former driver for the Public Service Commission (PSC), is now at the center of a significant corruption investigation. Recent reports have revealed that Ali possesses assets worth at least Tk 500 million. His portfolio includes a six-storey building, three flats in Dhaka, and a car. Additionally, he owns a duplex in his hometown of Madaripur.
This information surfaced during preliminary questioning by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police. However, CID officials suspect that Ali’s actual holdings may be even more extensive.
Ali’s financial activities have come under the spotlight following his arrest. On Monday, he and his son, Syed Sohanur Rahman, a university student, were apprehended from their flat in the WASA Road area of Shewrapara, Dhaka. They face allegations of involvement in leaking exam questions for the recruitment of deputy assistant engineers for Bangladesh Railway.
The authorities have arrested 17 people in connection with leaking exam papers. This includes two deputy directors and an assistant director from the Public Service Commission (PSC), along with 15 others. A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) official has filed charges against them under the Public Service Commission Act on Tuesday morning.
Among those arrested is Sohanur Rahman, the son of former PSC driver Syed Abed Ali. Rahman was the relief and disaster management affairs secretary for the Dhaka South City unit of the Chhatra League. He was removed from his position on Monday.
