The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has been increased again for consumers. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced on Monday, September 2, that the price of a 12kg cylinder has been raised by Tk 44, bringing it to Tk 1,421 for September. This marks another hike from August when the price was set at Tk 1,377.
According to the BERC, the new price took effect from 6 PM on Monday. The commission stated that the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder for September has been increased from Tk 1,377 to Tk 1,421, reflecting a Tk 44 rise.
Previously, on August 4, the price was increased by Tk 11 compared to July, bringing it to Tk 1,377. In July, the price had risen by Tk 3, setting it at Tk 1,366. However, in June and May, the price was reduced by Tk 30 and Tk 49, bringing it down to Tk 1,363 and Tk 1,393, respectively.
Notably, after eight consecutive months of increases, the price was reduced in April by Tk 40, setting it at Tk 1,442 compared to March’s Tk 1,482. In February, the price had risen by Tk 41, and in January by Tk 29.
On the same day, BERC also raised the price of autogas. For September, the price for consumers has been set at Tk 65.26 per liter, including VAT.
In August, BERC also increased the price of autogas, setting it at Tk 63.21 per liter, up by 51 paise from July. In July, the price had risen by 17 paise from June, reaching Tk 62.70 per liter, including VAT.
However, in June, May, and April, the price of autogas had been reduced. The prices were set at Tk 62.53, Tk 63.92, and Tk 66.21 per liter, respectively. In March, the price was set at Tk 68.05 per liter, including VAT. The prices for February and January were set at Tk 67.68 and Tk 65.67 per liter, respectively.
In a press release sent to the media, BERC explained that the new prices for September were adjusted based on the Saudi Aramco contracts for propane and butane. The average Saudi CP (Contract Price) for propane and butane in September was calculated to be USD 598.50 per metric ton, considering a propane-to-butane ratio of 35:65.
It’s noteworthy that in 2023, the prices of LPG and autogas decreased five times but increased seven times. The prices were reduced in January, March, April, June, and July, but rose in February, May, August, September, October, November, and December of the previous year.
