The HSC Result 2024 for this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams will not be based on an automatic pass system.
Instead, the results will be prepared using the marks obtained in the exams that were held, combined with subject mapping based on Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results for the exams that were canceled.
This means that any student who fails in the exams that were conducted will receive a failing grade in the overall results, according to officials from the education administration. The proposal for publishing the results is still under preparation.
On Monday, August 26, officials responsible for preparing the proposal confirmed this information to the media.
After several HSC and equivalent exams were held, the remaining exams were canceled on August 20 due to student protests. The Ministry of Education announced the cancellations, and exam controllers and system analysts from the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards were tasked with preparing a proposal for how to publish the results. Although the proposal is not yet finalized, a preliminary outline had been set to publish the results within 40 days of the cancellation announcement.
Professor Abul Bashar, the convener of the Inter-Education Board Exam Control Subcommittee and the Exam Controller of Dhaka Board, told The Daily Campus that the results will not be based on an automatic pass system.
“This is not an automatic pass. Therefore, if a student fails in any of the exams that were conducted, they will fail overall. For the canceled subjects, the results are being considered through subject mapping,” he explained. The proposal will be finalized and submitted to the Ministry of Education.
He further mentioned that multiple proposals have been received regarding the publication of HSC Result 2024. All of are currently under review. However, the ongoing floods have delayed the process as the focus has shifted to collecting information from flood-affected institutions. The final proposal will be made after considering all aspects.
Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, the chairman of the Dhaka Board and president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, also commented that the proposal has not yet been finalized.
“The exam controllers were tasked with preparing a proposal, but it has not yet reached us. Therefore, it is too early to comment on how the results will be determined. However, if the proposal includes considering the marks obtained in the conducted exams, then any student who fails in any subject will fail overall,” he stated.
