Bangladeshi most popular mobile operator company GrameenPhone has withdrawn its decision to increase the minimum recharge amount. It was supposed to start the GP Minimum recharge amount at Taka 30 for the Prepaid customer from today, but the decision was withdrawn today (January 10, 2024). Now, customers can recharge at least 20 Taka as before.
Today (January 10, 2024) Grameenphone’s Head of Communications Sharfuddin Ahmed Chowdhury said to the media that, we are not going to set the minimum recharge limit at 30 Taka. The Minimum amount will remain the same at 20 Taka as before. Discussion with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will be held regarding this matter.
On Monday (January 8, 2024), Grameenphone announced the minimum recharge limit on their official app at MyGp. On the other hand, the company notified the customer via the official SMS from “GP Info”. The new rule was set to roll out from today (January 10, 2024).
It was said that the Minimum Recharge amount of GP Prepaid users would be set at 30 Taka. The recharge limit will be rolling out from Wednesday, January 10, 2024. After that, the GrameenPhone prepaid users can’t recharge under 30 Taka. However, the recharge offer under 30 Taka will remain unchanged. On the other hand, the scratch card cost will remain the same.
The vast amount of people who are using GrameenPhone SIM, started the ‘Boycott Grameenphone’ trend on social media after the company announced the Minimum Recharge of 30 Taka. Around 10-15 online events have been created on Facebook and all are still available on the platform.
As per the report, one of the Facebook Events titled Boycott Grameenphone got a huge response. More than 90 thousand people showed their interest and shared the event on their posts. Customers express their frustration and anger against the minimum recharge limit.
Earlier, GrameenPhone set the Minimum Recharge amount at 20 Taka. The rules were started on July 1, 2022. The Company has increased the amount after almost one and a half years. Before that, it was 10 Taka for every SIM company.
