In a significant move to support the flood-affected people of Feni, Lakshmipur, Comilla, and Noakhali districts, Bangladesh Bank has announced a financial aid package of Tk 23 crore.
The announcement was made in a press release signed by Mohua Mohsin, the Director of Communications and Publications of Bangladesh Bank, today, Thursday (August 29, 2024).
According to the press release, the fund will be allocated from the Disaster Management and Social Responsibility Fund of Bangladesh Bank. A sum of Tk 22 crore will be contributed to the Chief Advisor’s Relief and Welfare Fund, while an additional Tk 1 crore will come from the equivalent of one day’s basic salary of Bangladesh Bank’s officers and employees for the month of August 2024. This brings the total aid package to Tk 23 crore.
Furthermore, the press release highlighted that an additional Tk 5 crore from this fund will be allocated to a foundation being established to support those affected by the ‘July Revolution’.
The decision was approved during the 436th meeting of the Bangladesh Bank Board of Directors held on Wednesday, August 28. The board considered the current economic crisis, the flood situation, and the overall state of the country before making this decision.
This initiative by Bangladesh Bank is expected to provide much-needed relief to the flood victims and demonstrate the bank’s commitment to supporting the community during challenging times.
