The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that all public and private universities, along with their affiliated colleges, will be closed indefinitely. This decision was made to ensure the safety of students. The announcement came on Tuesday night (July 16) in a notice signed by UGC Secretary Dr. Ferdous Zaman.
The notice stated, “Following the Ministry of Education’s decision and considering student safety, all educational activities at public and private universities, as well as affiliated medical, textile, engineering, and other colleges, will remain closed until further notice. Students are also advised to leave their dormitories and stay in a safe place.”
Earlier, the Ministry of Education had announced the indefinite closure of all schools and colleges in the country. The Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee also postponed the HSC and equivalent exams that were scheduled for Thursday across 11 boards.
For safety reasons, the National University has also closed all its affiliated colleges.
