Shib Narayan Das, National flag designer passed away at 78

Shib Narayan Das, the designer of the Bangladesh National Flag died today (April 19) at the age of 78.

As per the report, he was admitted to Dhaka’s Samorita Hospital with breathing problems. Later, he was shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday night when his physical condition deteriorated.

National Flag designer Shib Narayan died while undergoing treatment at BSMMU around 9:30 AM on Friday (April 19). He was admitted to the ICU there.

He designed the flag on the Dhaka University campus on March 2, 1971. It had a yellow map of Bangladesh in the middle point with a red circle symbolizing the sun on a green background. According to the report, the National flag was flown for the first time on Mar 2, 1971, at Kala Bhaban at Dhaka University.

Shib Narayan Das was born in Comilla. He entered politics by the hand of language soldier Dhirendranath Dutta. He participated in the education movement of 1962 and was imprisoned.
